IATSE Local 217 Successfully Organizes Metro Center, Rockford, IL

IATSE Announces Agreement with NETworks

The IATSE successfully organized the production/technical services employees of Metro Center in Rockford, IL, Thomas C. Short, International President of the IATSE, announced. The contract will impact approximately 67 workers who voted 5 to 1 in favor of the union.

The contract will cover employer contributions for pension, health and welfare, and annuity benefits and address issues of concern including substandard wages, scheduling practices, the use of unskilled, untrained temporary agency workers and subjective supervisory practices.

Metro Center is a 10,000-seat arena/convention facility. The Coronado Theater, a 2,400 seat legitimate theater, and Davis Park, an outdoor venue that hosts an annual Water Festival and other events.

International Representatives Thomas J. Kiousis, Jr., Joanne Sanders and Special Representative John Scardino spearheaded the organizing efforts.

The IATSE is an International Union that represents members employed in the Stage Craft, motion picture and television production, and trade show industries throughout the United States, its Territories and Canada.
