Members of Hollywood-based Story Analysts Local 854, and National Editors Guild Local 700, overwhelmingly voted to merge Local 854 into Local 700, it was announced by IATSE President Thomas C. Short.
The merger between these two Unions will result in the one-seat expansion of the Local 700’s (Editors) Executive Board. This seat will provide representation to the new merged Story Analyst segment of its membership.
Story Analysts are employed by production companies to review all types of literary material that is submitted for consideration. The analysts provide producers with summaries and recommendations as part of the development process of production for film or television.
The merger became effective May 1, 2000 and adds about 180 members to Local 700, bringing its total membership to over 5,600. The Editors Local is headed by Executive Director Ron Kutak, and the merger is expected to give greater bargaining strength to all members of Local 700.
