More than 60 workers in motion picture and television production ended up receiving health and retirement benefits when two Spanish-language commercial productions were organized by the IATSE in Los Angeles.
Members reported the commercials for Walmart and AT&T to the IATSE, both in production last week. After the IATSE and local unions visited the sets, the companies were signed to the Commercial Agreement without a need for a strike. Not only did the crew receive benefits, but now every commercial these production companies produce will be done union from now on.
Since the 67th Quadrennial Convention in 2013, the IATSE has emphasized the importance of better working conditions for workers in the entertainment industry.
To answer the question, “Can we organize Spanish language projects?” The answer is “Sí se puede!”
