In Commemoration of Juneteenth

We acknowledge and commemorate Juneteenth (also known as Freedom Day) as a powerful milestone in American History. As we come together to celebrate the rich history, contributions, and resilience of our African American kin, we encourage all our members to reflect, educate themselves about the historical significance of Juneteenth, and take part in initiatives that strengthen diversity and inclusion, so that together we are one step closer toward a more equitable and just society for all.

We honor the resilience of those who brought independence to ALL in our country, and we remember that freedom is an ongoing fight. This Juneteenth, the DEI Committee encourages our union kin to recognize the ongoing climate of exclusion, bias, and violence towards the LGBTQIA+ community, especially our trans kin of color who experience elevated levels of risk, homelessness, and physical harm. Our communities (and unions) are only as strong as our most vulnerable members. We stand proudly in solidarity with our LGBTQIA+ kin all year long and especially during this month earmarked to highlight their history and future.

Let us all enjoy this commemoration of freedom and its true value to our community at large.

In Solidarity,

IATSE Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Committee
