Chicago locals of the IATSE hosted a PAC event, welcoming the Union’s delegates to the 64th Triennial Convention and raising over $55,000, it was announced by Thomas Short, president of the International. The event was attended by more than 400 IA officers and delegates and was organized by Stagehands Local 2, Projectionists Local 110, Studio Mechanics Local 476, National Camera Local 600, National Editors Local 700, Treasurers and Ticket Sellers Local 750, Wardrobe Local 769, Motion Picture and Videotape Editors Local 780, and Special Department Local B-46. The event was held at the Chicago Sheraton, kicking off the Convention, which officially opens Monday, July 16, 2001, runs through Friday, July 20, 2001.
“This successful fund raiser should send a message to politicians that labor will be an important ally in the upcoming elections,” stated President Short.
President Short noted that fundraisers of this kind have also been held in New York, Los Angeles, Philadelphia, Orlando, San Diego and Cleveland, and more are being planned for the future in various cities throughout the U.S.
