Workers at Empress Walk Cineplex Join IATSE Local B-173

TORONTO, ON – Workers at the Empress Walk Cineplex voted last week to join IATSE Local B-173 as part of the Local’s ongoing IATSE-Reps-FOH campaign. The bargaining unit of close to 50 workers will now begin the bargaining process. They join Cineplex workers across various cinemas in Montreal and St. John’s, who are represented by IATSE Local 262 and IATSE Local 709, respectively.

“Whether you work in live theatre or a movie theatre, front-of-house workers deserve a voice in their workplace,” said International Vice President and Director of Canadian Affairs John Lewis. “We look forward to welcoming these workers into the IATSE family.”

Building off successful front-of-house organizing victories at Soulpepper, ArtScape, the National Ballet of Canada, Roger’s Hot Docs Theatre, and the Canadian Stage, the worker solidarity and strength continues to grow.

IATSE Local B-173 encourages all FOH workers to contact IATSE International Representative Jeremy Salter if they are interested in improving their working conditions. jsalter@iatse.net
