New York Based Universal Studios Publicists Join IATSE Local 600

NEW YORK, NY – In an election conducted by the National Labor Relations Board (NLRB), Universal Studios Publicists based in New York City have unanimously voted to be represented by the International Cinematographers Guild, IATSE Local 600. The Guild, which represents over 9,000 camera professionals and publicists in the motion picture and television industries, merged with the Publicists Guild in 2002.

The five publicists contacted the Local in January and began meeting throughout March before signing union authorization cards in April. After Universal declined to voluntarily recognize the bargaining unit, an election petition was filed, and votes were counted on June 22nd demonstrating unanimous support for unionization.

“Local 600 welcomes this courageous group of skilled publicists into Local 600 where they join so many of their colleagues and friends,” said National Executive Director Rebecca Rhine. “We believe our status as a National Local uniquely positions us to cover the work our members do across the country.  This is simply another another example of that commitment.”
