MONTREAL, QC, May 8 – IATSE Local 56 successfully certified the stagehands working for the City of Chateauguay, a suburb of Montreal.  The City of Chateauguay operates two municipal theatres; the 400-seat Pavillion de l’île and the Centre Culturel Georges-Vanier but also uses the same group of employees for various festivals and musical events within the City.

The local filed an accreditation application on February 23 for the roughly 13 employees in the bargaining unit.  The application was not challenged by the employer.  On March 26, the Quebec Labour Board certified Local 56 as the bargaining agent for all stagehands employed by the City of Chateauguay.  The Local is expecting to commence bargaining for a first collective agreement in the near future.
