More than 100 front-of-house employees will now be represented by IATSE Local 262 in collective bargaining with Cinema Brossard Quartier Dix/30 in Montréal.
The Cineplex-owned theatre was opened in 2006 as part of the newly-constructed Quartier Dix/30 Power Centre. The popular 16-screen venue, located along Montréal’s south shore, also has restaurants and two live performance spaces; one outdoor for summer shows, and a 915-seat indoor theatre.
The application to certify was filed on September 26 and an initial decision by the Quebec Labour Board was not favourable for Local 262. The local challenged the decision and a hearing was held at the Labour Board on November 12 in which the local was successful in being certified as the bargaining agent for its front-of-house employees. The employer challenged the decision of the Board, but on November 19, the appeal was dismissed. Cineplex has now confirmed that it will not further appeal the certification. Employees are looking forward to working under their first union agreement with IATSE Local 262.
