IATSE Secures Representation of Aspect Ratio Workers

IA President Short Appoints Safety Chairman

In an unusual organizing effort, IATSE Local 700 “reorganized” 45 workers at the independent trailer house Aspect Ratio, it was announced by International President Thomas C. Short. Theemployer is now obligated to meet with the Union to negotiate a new Agreement. The vote was31-7 in favor of representation.

Employees impacted by the contract include trailer editors, picture editors, assistant editors,sound editors, sound mixers, transfer, post supervisors and music librarians.

Aspect Ratio, responsible for trailers for motion pictures, television and home entertainment,attempted to break away from the IATSE at the end of their agreement, causing the union to re-organize the existing workers from collecting signature cards to holding an election.

Tris Carpenter of Local 700 spearheaded the organizing effort.
