The IATSE won the right to represent freelance and studio staff broadcast technicians employed by Phoenix-based Cox Communications of Arizona, it was announced by Thomas C. Short, International President. Of the 103 employees eligible to vote, 68 returned ballots with 47 voting in favor of union representation, 15 voting against, and six votes being challenged. The election was held July 30, 2002.
The bargaining unit consists of all freelance and studio staff technicians who work in the broadcasting of live sports events. This includes the all franchises in the Phoenix metropolitan area.
