Puerto Rico is open for business and the producers on the island know it! With an enticing tax incentive program that encourages projects to utilize the skills of local talent in order to fully utilize the complete incentive benefits, it seems that Spanish speaking cultural projects are on the rise on the island!!!

2020 has been non-stop organizing since the stroke of midnight on January 1st. The International has been working with Local Unions across the country and throughout our jurisdiction organizing motion picture projects at an accelerated rate than usual. From commercials to feature length films, we are continuing to have success putting projects under any number of our CBA’s.

When we became aware of a non-union production with a budget between 2-3 million dollars and a crew in excess of 80, we had to act. Working closely with Chaim Kantor and Anna Nowlan of Local 600 as well as Local 494 officers Miguel Sanchez and Neftaly Nieves, we began our organizing campaign on the Independent Film, El Cuartito about mid-month.

Puerto Rico has a tightly bound film community, and a deal was reached swiftly with no work stoppage and little stress on the crew as the production maintained open communication with us once they learned of our activities. The production was open and forthright with us which made the entire process predictable and pleasant.

This was one of the times that we were able to educate the employer about who we are as an organization and the people that we represent, all while building a relationship for future productions. When it comes to policing our jurisdictions and maintaining the level of excellence that your crews are known for, Local 494’s t-shirts say it best with the #ReportYourJob hashtag. We are in this together and must lookout for one another as we affirm the industry standards that we set and maintain!

IATSE ORGANIZA, GANA CONTRATO PARA LOS TRABAJADORES DE CINE ‘EL CUARTITO’ EN PUERTO RICO

¡Puerto Rico está abierto para los negocios y los productores de la isla lo saben! Con un atractivo programa de incentivos fiscales que alienta a los proyectos a utilizar las habilidades del talento local para aprovechar al máximo los beneficios completos de los incentivos, ¡parece que los proyectos culturales que hablan Español están en aumento en la isla!

2020 ha estado organizando sin parar desde la medianoche del 1 de enero. La Internacional ha estado trabajando con sindicatos locales en todo el país y en toda nuestra jurisdicción organizando proyectos cinematográficos a un ritmo más acelerado de lo habitual. Desde comerciales hasta largometrajes, seguimos teniendo éxito al poner proyectos bajo cualquier número de nuestros CBA.

Cuando nos dimos cuenta de una producción sin sindical con un presupuesto de entre 2 y 3 millones de dólares y una tripulación de más de 80, tuvimos que actuar. Trabajando en estrecha colaboración con Chaim Kantor y Anna Nowlan del Local 600, así como con los oficiales del Local 494 Miguel Sánchez y Neftaly Nieves, comenzamos nuestra campaña de organización en la película independiente El Cuartito a mediados de mes.

Puerto Rico tiene una comunidad de pelicula estrechamente unida que facilitó la identificación del equipo, la colección de tarjetas y el seguimiento de los movimientos anticipados de la producción. Se llegó a un acuerdo rápidamente sin interrupción del trabajo y poco estrés para la tripulación, ya que la producción con éxito una comunicación abierta con nosotros una vez que se enteraron de nuestras actividades. La producción fue abierta y directa con nosotros, lo que hizo que todo el proceso fuera predecible y agradable.

Esta es una de las veces que pudimos educar al empleador sobre quiénes somos como organización y las personas que representan, todo mientras construimos una relación para futuras producciones.
