IATSE Organizes The Grand Theatre in London, Ontario

IATSE Canada logo

IATSE Local 828 was successful in organizing scenic artists and prop builders at The Grand Theatre in London, Ontario. The vote was conducted on October 31, 2003 and was won by Local 828 with a strong majority.

The theatre, first known as The Grand Opera house, opened its doors at its present location over 100 years ago and has gone through a number of incarnations. The new Grand Theatre seats 839 people, and although the floor, the balcony and the lights are all new, the tradition and history of The Grand have been preserved for today’s theatre-goers.

The successful certification of The Grand Theatre is an important triumph for Local 828. The local has three shops under agreement but this represents the first theatre for which Local 828 has been certified and is proof of the local’s continued commitment to organizing.
