Toronto, Ontario – IATSE Local 822, with the assistance of the International, has been successful in its efforts to certify wardrobe, hair and makeup artists employed by the St. Lawrence Centre for the Performing Arts. An application for certification was filed with the Ontario Labour Relations Board on June 12, 2008. The St. Lawrence Centre for the Performing Arts subsequently agreed to voluntarily recognized Local 822 as the bargaining agent for its wardrobe, hair and makeup artists throughout the City of Toronto.

The St. Lawrence Centre for the Performing Arts opened its doors in 1970 as part of the City of Toronto’s Centennial Project. Three million dollars was spent recently to refresh the lobby space and both the 876-seat Bluma Appel Theatre and the 497-seat Jane Mallett Theatre. The St. Lawrence Centre is home to six of Toronto’s most vibrant performing arts companies, featuring the best of locally produced drama, musical theatre and opera.
