Québec City, QC – With the assistance of the International, I.A.T.S.E. Local 523 has won a decision from Québec’s Labour Relations Commission, granting the local bargaining rights for front-of-house employees at the twelve-screen Les Galeries de la Capitale (Famous Players) in Quebec City.

The Local was granted certification in July of 2003, but a number of legal challenges were subsequently filed questioning the manner in which the representation cards were signed. As a result of these challenges, the Labour Relations Commission revoked its certification decision, pending further investigation into the case.

On April 26, 2004, the Commission completed its investigation and issued a decision completely exonerating the method in which the IATSE obtained representation cards and once again granted Local 523 bargaining rights for the theatre’s 68 front-of-house employees.
