Members will now have an added tool to protect against harassment on-set
LOS ANGELES – IATSE today announced that the MyConnext Resources & Reporting Tool for safer workplaces is now available for members working anywhere in the United States on motion pictures, television, streaming productions and commercials. The online platform provides members with an expanded toolset specifically built to help protect freelance entertainment workers.
“This collaboration with the Hollywood Commission has been an extraordinary undertaking and I want to commend everyone who worked so diligently on behalf of IATSE members,” said IATSE International President Matthew D. Loeb.
“This tool gives members concerned about their professional and personal wellbeing another safe way to report and chronicle harassment or other forms of workplace abuse while being shielded from retaliation.”
Developed by the Hollywood Commission, MyConnext is a supplement to existing reporting options provided by IATSE and industry employers. It offers members exclusive benefits including a variety of customizable options for submitting a report. For instance, a user can create a timestamped record of their experience, make an anonymous report to IATSE and/or another designated entity, or hold the report from being released until there’s a match — meaning that the report will not be released to IATSE unless another IATSE member reports the same individual’s behavior. Another feature of MyConnext is the Ombuds, a specially-trained individual who can help answer workers’ questions, provide a confidential source for workers to discuss concerns, and help workers understand their reporting options.
“We’re gratified that the MyConnext tool, resources, and live help through the Ombuds office are available to the members of IATSE,” said Malia Arrington, Executive Director of the Hollywood Commission. “With this expansion, we double our reach. It’s exciting to have the opportunity to bring this critically important platform to the more than 85,000 IATSE members throughout the U.S. who make the movie, TV, and streaming magic happen.”
The MyConnext tool was developed following extensive industry surveys by the Hollywood Commission, which found that some 9 in 10 workers wanted more technology to report and record abusive workplace behavior. Following those surveys, the Commission began developing a tool to help workers report abuse without the risk of retaliation.
