Gorham Street Productions Stagehands Voluntarily Recognized, Join IATSE

Madison, WI – Approximately 100 workers employed by Gorham Street Productions are set to join The International Alliance of Theatrical Stage Employees (IATSE) Local 251 after company owner, Bill Norman, agreed to voluntarily recognize the crew’s union earlier this month. Gorham Street provides crewing for multiple venues throughout the Madison and Milwaukee metro areas including the Sylvee, Majestic Theater, High Noon Saloon, and Breese Stevens Field. As a part of the voluntary recognition process, workers and management are able to expeditiously proceed to negotiating a collective bargaining agreement between the parties.

“IATSE Local 251 looks forward to welcoming Gorham Steet Productions workers into our membership and building a stronger entertainment community though our new partnership with Gorham Street Productions,” said IATSE Local 251 Business Agent, Justina Vickerman.

“We are proud to work alongside our staff to ensure the continued professionalism and excellence they have delivered for 18 years now,” said Gorham Street founder and owner, Bill Norman. “A rising tide lifts all ships, and in the challenging environment our working class finds itself in, it becomes all the more important for businesses to invest into their workforce. America was built by the workers, and we are proud to stand with our staff and recognize their right to collectively advocate for the rewards that should come with that.”

Gorham Street Production’s decision to voluntarily recognize the worker’s union aligns with a broader trend in the live entertainment industry, where employers increasingly respect the choice of workers seeking a collective voice through a union and acknowledge the benefits that organized labor brings to entertainment workplaces.

“I’m very proud of our crew and how well they all rise to any task, get along, and support each other,” said said Crew Lead David Windus. “It makes me extremely excited for everything that’s to come with our amazing team. Thanks to all who’ve worked with us along the way, and welcome to all who will work with us in the future. We’re ready to bring the best everytime.”

“It’s been inspiring to see my fellow coworkers come together to express their desires for better working conditions and taking a stand for their rights,” said Crew Lead Timothy Byington-Fish. “I’m happy to see what the future holds for us.”
