ELMIRA, NY — Twelve traveling Stage Technicians working “On Your Feet! The Musical – The Story of Emilio & Gloria Estefan” joined in union with the IATSE, winning significant safety and travel concessions from producers of the upcoming national tour. This new production is scheduled to visit more than 70 cities nationwide over the next six months, with a press premiere to be held November 15, 2022, in West Palm Beach, Florida.

During rehearsals the Stage Technicians grew concerned that inadequate staffing and poor accommodation for overnight travel put their personal safety at risk. Individual asks of managers were unanswered. So, for their mutual aid and protection, the workers joined together in union.  By bargaining collectively, the traveling Stage Technicians won additional staff, a sleeper coach for their travel, guaranteed periods of rest, health insurance, retirement savings, improved wages, and increases in their per diem.

“The crew’s solidarity is something to see!” said organizer Daniel Little, “By standing up for themselves and each other, they’re improving their lives. Everyone who works should be in a union.”

“On Your Feet!” is a musical based on the life of 26-time Grammy Award-winning husband-and-wife team Gloria and Emilio Estefan, featuring a book by Alexander Dinelaris and a score including “Rhythm is Gonna Get You,” “Get On Your Feet,” and “Coming Out of the Dark.” The original Broadway production received seven Outer Critics Circle Award nominations, three Drama League Award nominations and a Tony Award nomination for Best Choreography.
