Montreal Solotech Drivers Cruise Into Representation

IATSE Canada logo

MONTREAL, QC – On August 22, IATSE Local 56 became the bargaining agent of the transportation department of Solotech in Montreal. Solotech is a North American event provider of technology and services in the audio, video, lighting, rigging and staging markets.

The drivers, who are responsible for the transportation of Solotech’s rental equipment, approached Local 56 in November of 2015, asking for assistance and representation. The local began working with the drivers to better understand their issues and on July 13, filed an application for certification with the Quebec Labour Relations Board. On August 22, the Quebec Labour Board ruled in favour of the union representing these workers.

The drivers are excited to have representation in the workplace and are looking forward to working under their first collective agreement. Negotiation dates for the agreement are expected to be scheduled shortly.
