SIDNEY, BC – Stage technical employees at the Mary Winspear Centre, on Vancouver Island, have successfully certified their employer for union representation by IATSE Local 168.

Following discussions between Local 168 and Winspear employees, the Local filed an application for certification on November 28, 2018. A certification vote was held on December 7, and employees voted overwhelmingly for union representation by IATSE Local 168.

Opened in September of 2001, The Mary Winspear Centre is a not-for-profit event, conference and theatre facility located in Sidney, BC, on Vancouver Island. The venue includes the 310-seat Charlie White Theatre, the 8,100 sq. ft. Bodine Family Hall, a gallery, activity rooms, and over 40 acres of parkland, and hosts theatrical productions, art shows, conferences, concerts, and community events.

The new IATSE 168 bargaining unit, comprised of stage technical employees, is looking forward to continuing its work at this gorgeous facility under the security of its first collective agreement.
