THUNDER BAY, ON Technical production staff at the Magnus Theatre have voted for representation by IATSE Local 467. Discussions between the stagehands and Local 467 started in mid-October and the Local filed an application for certification with the Ontario Labour Relations Board on November 16. The representation vote was held was held the following week, and the results were unanimous. The Labour Board released its decision on December 12, awarding IATSE Local 467 jurisdiction for stage workers at the venue.

Located in Thunder Bay, the 250-seat Magnus Theatre, which features a proscenium style stage, is Northwestern Ontario’s only professional theatre company. Founded in 1971, its influence has continued to grow, and Magnus now produces seven professional mainstage productions each season. As a smaller local union, IATSE Local 467 is particularly pleased to welcome these workers into the Local, which will mark a 33% increase in membership. The new members are looking forward to beginning negotiations for their first collective agreement. Other stage workers looking to form or join a union should contact IATSE International Representative Jeremy Salter at jsalter@iatse.net.
