At least 24 front-of-house employees will now be represented by IATSE Local 262 in collective bargaining with the Centre Pierre-P é ladeau in Montréal.

In the heart of Montreal’s Latin Quarter, the Centre Pierre-Péladeau is a unique multidisciplinary creative center and performing arts venue, which is owned and operated by the University of Quebec at Montreal (UQAM). Its mission is to support the creation of new works and presentations in the fields of dance and music. It houses the administrative offices of numerous arts organizations, two rehearsal rooms, as well as the 850-seat Salle Pierre-Mercure.

The bargaining unit sought by local 262 contained 24 employees of which 6 were students of UQAM—including ushers, bartenders and supervisors. In granting local 262 the certification, the Board found that the bargaining unit applied for was distinct and appropriate for bargaining, that there was a community of interest between the employees within the unit, and finally that particular significance should be accorded to the employees’ desire to be represented by the same union as the local 56 stagehands working at the Centre.
