Carlos Cota was unanimously elected to the Board of Trustees on January 14, 2016, at the General Executive Board Meeting in Hollywood, Florida.
Cota began his career as a Stagehand with IATSE Local 122 in 1990. He entered the apprenticeship in 1995 and was named Apprentice of the Year in 1996. In 1998, he was elected to the Executive Board and served for the next 7 years. In 2006, he was elected Business Agent and served four consecutive terms prior to his current position as International Representative. During his tenure as Business Agent, Cota made his mark in the San Diego Labor and Entertainment communities and has been recognized with several awards over the years: -San Diego & Imperial Counties Labor Council Volunteer Dedication Award, 2008 -IATSE Local 122s highest honor, the Lester J. Fluno Outstanding Service Award, 2010 – Labor Leader of the Year by the Interfaith Committee for Worker Justice, 2011 -2015 Labor Leader of the Year by the San Diego and Imperial Counties Labor Council, AFL-CIO, CLC.
Cota currently serves as an Executive Board Member for the San Diego Convention Center Corporation, Executive Board Member for the Cesar Chavez Service Clubs and and also on the Board of Directors for the San Diego Food Bank. Cota has held the previous positions of; Executive Board Member for the IATSE District 2; Executive Board Member for the San Diego and Imperial Counties Labor Council, AFL-CIO; Advisory Board Member for the College, Career, & Technical Education program for the San Diego Unified School District and also a Board Member of the California Ballet Co.
