IATSE Statement on the Georgia Religious Liberty Bill

IATSE General Board Endorses Obama 2nd Term

The International Alliance of Theatrical Stage Employees (IATSE) is strongly against the Georgia religious liberty bill, and against any actions to override Gov. Nathan Deal’s veto of this bill.

Georgia is a major location of motion picture and television production work, providing thousands of jobs to working people in the entertainment industry. This bill will hurt Georgia’s economy, and in turn, hurt the lives of those entertainment workers.

”Not only is this a human rights issue by discriminating against the LGBTQ community, it is a workers’ issue because it threatens an economy that allows people to put food on the table,” said IATSE International President Matthew D. Loeb.

Equal rights are the cornerstone of the labor movement. As a union that represents people working in the entertainment industry and strives for equality and diversity, the IATSE strongly stands against any legislation that would hurt Georgia’s economy and discriminate against the LGBTQ community.
