Hamilton, Ontario – IATSE Local 129, with the assistance of the International, has succeeded in its efforts to certify the conversion crew at Copps Coliseum. A vote held on July 18 resulted in a 12 to 8 victory in favour of IA representation. There are approximately 28 employees in the new bargaining unit.
Following the victory at the ballot box, the Ontario Labour Relations Board rendered its decision July 31, granting Local 129, which already represents stagehands at Copps Coliseum, the right to represent all Facility Attendants as well.
Copps Coliseum is a multi-purpose facility that has played host to major concerts, professional ice hockey games, trade shows and even dirt-surface events. Retractable seating and a versatile trussing system allows the venue to be configured specifically for each event and therefore, seating can be tailored to house from 4,000 to 19,000 spectators, depending on event size.
