IATSE Locals Endorse Mark Levine for New York City Comptroller

NEW YORK, NY — Several local unions of the International Alliance of Theatrical Stage Employees (IATSE) announced their endorsement of Mark Levine for New York City Comptroller, Thursday. This endorsement reflects the collective support of:

  • Local One (Stagehands)
  • Local 52 (Motion Picture and Television Production Studio Mechanics)
  • Local 306 (Projectionists, Video Technicians, Theatrical Employees, Allied Crafts)
  • Local 751 (Treasurers and Ticket Sellers)
  • Local 764 (Wardrobe, Theater, and Motion Picture and Television Production)
  • Local 798 (Hair and Makeup Artists)
  • United Scenic Artists Local 829
  • Association of Theatrical Press Agents and Managers (ATPAM)

“Mark Levine’s track record includes championing affordable housing, supporting labor rights, and promoting fiscal transparency,” said IATSE International President Matthew D. Loeb. “His understanding of the arts and entertainment sectors, combined with his vision to use the fiscal policy of the city to the benefit of working people, makes him uniquely qualified to oversee the city’s finances.”

As Manhattan Borough President, Levine recently spoke at a rally for Atlantic Theater Company production workers in their pursuit for a first contract just before workers were forced to go on strike, positioning him as a key ally for New York City’s entertainment workers.

IATSE International does not make official endorsements for any U.S. elected office other than President of the United States, and the International defers to its affiliated locals to endorse the elected offices within their local jurisdiction. However, the IA amplifies local unions’ endorsements when there is overwhelming support for a single candidate.
