NEW YORK, NY — It is with pride that we announce a victory in the fight for workplace safety. Thanks to the activism and support of Broadcast Technicians across the nation, our allies in the Labor Movement, and the highlighting of these issues in the press, we are pleased to report that on 1/14/21, IATSE and Golf Channel management met to agree upon the implementation of regularly scheduled COVID-19 testing protocols. From the onset of this pandemic the IATSE has remained steadfast in its demands for workplace safety. We are pleased that NBC/Universal and Golf Channel have come to acknowledge the need for crews to be tested regularly.
More often than not, when an issue of workplace safety comes into question, it is an issue that effects those directly in the workplace, and less so those they come in contact with at home or in public. This is not the case with COVID-19. We all have a responsibility to do all that we can to slow the spread of the virus at work and at home. When employers cooperate with employees and their unions to address these issues everyone is safer, and a safe workplace is a workplace with more dignity and respect.
