PHILADELPHIA, PA — Encore workers in Philadelphia, represented by the International Alliance of Theatrical Stage Employees (IATSE) Local 8, are fighting for a fair contract after multiple years of stagnant wage growth. Since the expiration of their agreement on December 31, 2021, Philadelphia Encore overhire employees have not seen any wage increases or workplace improvements.
On February 28, IATSE Local 8 members held a rally to urge Encore management to take action towards a fair deal. “These workers are the backbone of live events throughout the city. Without them, the lights are dark and the microphones are off,” said IATSE Local 8 Business Manager, Tricia Barnes Vargo. “For three years, Encore’s flippant negotiation style has left many workers and their families struggling, especially as the cost of living has risen significantly since the expiration of the last agreement.”
“Philadelphia is a premier meetings destination, and the local workforce deserves a fair contract,” said IATSE International Vice President and Director of Convention and Tradeshow, Carlos Cota. “Encore’s corporate greed must stop; skilled workers should not have to live on poverty wages.”
Encore Global, a provider of audiovisual and event technology services in hotels and convention centers, faces mounting pressure from its workforce. Recently, Encore workers nationwide — including in cities like San Diego, Seattle, Las Vegas, Anaheim, Los Angeles, Monterey, and Philadelphia — began a united campaign to raise awareness about the company’s labor practices and the ongoing fight for fair treatment.
As more workers across North America join this movement, IATSE remains committed to ensuring all Encore employees—union and yet-to-be-represented alike—understand their rights and what’s at stake. For updates on the campaign, visit EncoreUnfair.com.
