On Thursday, June 18, Quebec’s National Assembly passed Bill 32, amending Quebec’s Law on the Status of the Artist as well as other related statutes. As a result of the law’s enactment, the IATSE is now formally recognized as a certified bargaining agent representing workers in the motion picture and television industry in Quebec. By clarifying the respective jurisdictions of the IATSE and the AQTIS, the law will allow for peace in Quebec’s film and television industry, which will send a message of stability to producers.

International President, Matthew D. Loeb commented as follows: “I would like to congratulate all who worked towards the passage of Bill 32. The IATSE’s recognition in Quebec is truly a remarkable achievement. On behalf of the IATSE, I wish to thank Minister Christine St-Pierre, Gilles Charland who acted as a mediator throughout the process and Michel Arsenault, the President of the Quebec Federation of Labour for his unwavering support. I would also like to recognize the efforts of the working men and women in Quebec who sought representation by the IATSE. We will work hard to validate your trust in us.”
