Denver Box Office employees Vote For Union Security

IATSE Announces Agreement with NETworks

successful vote was taken of box office employees at the Denver Center for the Performing Arts (DCPA) for a union security clause, it was announced by International President Thomas C. Short. The IATSE recently organized box office employees at the Center and the election was held in compliance with Colorado Labor Law mandating an “All Union Election and Referendum.”

The affirmative vote resulted from the successful completion of negotiations for a contract covering the box office employees who recently elected for IATSE representation in the Union’s organizing efforts.

The “All Union Election and Referendum” is a part of Colorado Labor Law and requires that prior to the imposition of a union security clause in any contract, 75% of the bargaining unit employees must approve such a clause by secret ballot.

The Colorado Department of Labor and Employment supervised the balloting of the box office employees on April 16 and 17, 2002. Box office employees voted 43 in favor and 2 opposed to the question. This will now allow the union to require that all bargaining unit employees share the same financial obligations to the union.
