Austin Lyric Opera Crew Votes Unanimously for IATSE Representation

IATSE Announces Agreement with NETworks

The IATSE received a unanimous endorsement to represent the crew at Austin Lyric Opera, it was announced by International President Thomas C. Short. The newly established bargaining unit will cover all regular full and part time theatrical stage and shop employees including stagehands, shop hands, wardrobe attendants and wardrobe stitchers and constructors and make-up and hair stylists employed by Austin Lyric Opera.

Results of the election held on April 27, 2005 show that from the pool pf 34 eligible voters, 20 votes were cast. Nineteen votes were for representation by the IATSE, zero votes were against union representation, and one vote was contested.

Founded in May 1986 as Austin’s first professional opera company, the Austin Lyric Opera has is considered to be a cultural touchstone for the fine arts community in the Central Texas Region and gained national-acclaim as a producer of great opera.
