ACWU IATSE B778 and Flyover Canada Reach First Agreement

VANCOUVER, BC – The Arts and Cultural Workers Union (ACWU) IATSE B778 and Flyover Vancouver have successfully concluded bargaining their first collective agreement. Workers at the Flyover certified with IATSE B778 in April of 2024 and negotiations began last summer. These workers are the driving force behind the success of Flyover, one of Vancouver’s most popular interactive attractions.

On Monday July 14, members of ACWU IATSE Local B778 voted 96%in favour of the agreement, effective as of June 30th, 2025. Highlights of the two year agreement covering 93 Flyover employees are significant wage increases upon ratification, a guaranteed wage increase of 4% in the second year of the agreement (with a potential increase to 5% dependent on minimum wage increases), and a 6% health benefit contribution for workers who do not qualify for the health plan.

A member of the Flyover bargaining committee collectively echoed these sentiments, stating, “After over a decade of working the tourism/hospitality industry I’ve witnessed a system that relies on quickly hiring and firing new workers to save costs and ensure low retention, rights, and wages. I’m extremely excited for what this contract will do for my coworkers’ rights and hope that other workers in this industry can look to us as inspiration to enact their own change. Together hopefully we can turn this great industry to one that treats its workers as well as its guests.”

Additionally, Diane Wong, President of IATSE B778, stated: “We’re incredibly proud to welcome the members from Flyover Canada into ACWU! The Flyover team showed remarkable commitment and solidarity throughout a long bargaining process, resulting in real gains to wages, benefits, and job security for all the workers. This first agreement is more than just a contract, it’s a step toward transforming an industry built on precarious labour. This is also a monumental win for our local, with 93 new members, our union is now more diverse, more representative, and better equipped to support workers across BC. It proves that no matter where you work, in a gallery, cinema, or major attraction, when workers stand together, we win.”

The ACWU represents workers in art galleries, bookstores, independent movie theatres, community art centres, and independent filmmaking societies. Other BC arts workers looking for union representation can contact ACWU IATSE B778 Union Rep Conor Moore at cmoore@acwu.ca or by phone at 778-668-3874.
