Absolutely Iconic!  Workers at ICON Creative Studios Join the IATSE

VANCOUVER, BC – More than 700 workers at ICON Creative Studios have become the next group of animation workers to join The Canadian Animation Guild, IATSE Local 938. Workers at ICON are the fourth animation studio to form a union in British Columbia, joining workers from Titmouse Vancouver, Kickstart, and WildBrain.

“We are thrilled to welcome workers from ICON Creative Studios into our union,” said Kari Nakken, President of CAG IATSE Local 938. “The voice of animation workers continues to grow stronger.”

With over 700 employees, ICON is one of the largest animation studios in Vancouver. Over the past year, the IATSE has seen significant victories in both Canada and the US as more and more animation and VFX workers are coming together to form unions at their workplaces.

IATSE International President Matthew Loeb stated, “The path to better working conditions is clear; organizing and forming unions ensures that these workers will have a say in their working conditions.” Now that the union has been formed, workers at ICON Creative Studios will begin the bargaining process. “The IATSE has a long and proud history of representing animation workers,” continued Loeb, “a tradition we look forward to maintaining with workers from ICON.”

Workers from animation studios across Canada are actively working to form unions. If you would like more information about how to improve your working conditions, please contact IATSE International Representative Jeremy Salter, at jsalter@iatse.net.
