Une soci\u00e9t\u00e9 ne peut pas d\u00e9fendre fi\u00e8rement les droits politiques tout en n\u00e9gligeant ou en niant les conditions \u00e9conomiques dont tout \u00eatre humain a besoin pour vivre dans la dignit\u00e9. King a compris que la lutte pour la justice ne s'arr\u00eatait pas aux urnes. Elle s'\u00e9tendait aux lieux de travail, aux foyers, aux h\u00f4pitaux et aux \u00e9coles, aux espaces quotidiens o\u00f9 les gens se battent pour la stabilit\u00e9, les opportunit\u00e9s et le respect. Sa vision de l'\u00e9galit\u00e9 exigeait non seulement l'\u00e9quit\u00e9 juridique, mais aussi la s\u00e9curit\u00e9 \u00e9conomique, car sans l'une et l'autre, la v\u00e9ritable libert\u00e9 est incompl\u00e8te.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Pour les travailleurs, le message du Dr King reste profond\u00e9ment pertinent. Dans tout le pays, des millions de personnes travaillent de longues heures, s'effor\u00e7ant de subvenir aux besoins de leur famille tout en ayant du mal \u00e0 se payer un logement, des soins m\u00e9dicaux ou une \u00e9ducation de qualit\u00e9. Le Dr King a vu dans cette contradiction un \u00e9chec moral et a d\u00e9fendu avec force les syndicats comme moyen d'acc\u00e9der \u00e0 la dignit\u00e9, \u00e0 la s\u00e9curit\u00e9 financi\u00e8re et \u00e0 une vie meilleure pour leur famille. Cette lutte se poursuit aujourd'hui et nous rappelle avec force pourquoi nous devons continuer \u00e0 nous organiser et \u00e0 nous battre sans rel\u00e2che pour am\u00e9liorer les contrats de nos membres. &nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Le Dr King a reconnu que la justice ne pouvait \u00eatre atteinte sans \u00e9quit\u00e9 \u00e9conomique. Il a parl\u00e9 d'une restructuration des valeurs, exhortant la soci\u00e9t\u00e9 \u00e0 placer l'humanit\u00e9 au-dessus du mat\u00e9rialisme, la compassion au-dessus de la cupidit\u00e9. La lutte permanente des travailleurs t\u00e9moigne de sa perspicacit\u00e9. La dignit\u00e9 n'est pas un don de la soci\u00e9t\u00e9 ; elle est port\u00e9e par chaque individu qui continue \u00e0 travailler, \u00e0 s'\u00e9lever et \u00e0 s'organiser. Chaque fois qu'un travailleur exige un traitement \u00e9quitable, cherche \u00e0 obtenir de meilleures conditions contractuelles ou se tient aux c\u00f4t\u00e9s de ses s\u0153urs, de ses fr\u00e8res et de ses proches au sein du mouvement ouvrier, il affirme la dignit\u00e9 du travail et nous rappelle que, quel que soit notre m\u00e9tier ou la mani\u00e8re dont nous nous identifions, lorsque nous nous tenons ensemble... nous nous \u00e9levons ensemble !<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>En r\u00e9fl\u00e9chissant au message du Dr King, nous nous rappelons que l'\u00e9galit\u00e9 doit \u00eatre plus qu'une promesse, elle doit \u00eatre une pratique. Pour honorer son h\u00e9ritage, nous devons continuer \u00e0 plaider en faveur de salaires \u00e9quitables, d'emplois s\u00fbrs, de soins de sant\u00e9 de qualit\u00e9 et d'une \u00e9ducation pour tous.
