VANCOUVER, BC <\/strong>- <\/strong>Dans une d\u00e9cision juridique rendue par le BC Labour Relations Board le 11 d\u00e9cembre, la section locale 118 de l'IATSE a gagn\u00e9 le droit de repr\u00e9senter les techniciens de sc\u00e8ne de The Dance Centre travaillant au Scotiabank Dance Centre de Vancouver. Citant leurs priorit\u00e9s comme des salaires justes et appropri\u00e9s, un d\u00e9sir d'\u00eatre correctement class\u00e9s comme employ\u00e9s, et une volont\u00e9 collective de renforcer le pouvoir des travailleurs, les techniciens ont entam\u00e9 des discussions sur la repr\u00e9sentation avec la section locale 118 au d\u00e9but de l'ann\u00e9e.<\/p>\n

La section locale 118 a d\u00e9pos\u00e9 la demande d'accr\u00e9ditation le 20 mars, apr\u00e8s qu'une majorit\u00e9 \u00e9crasante des douze employ\u00e9s occasionnels aient sign\u00e9 des cartes de repr\u00e9sentation syndicale. Un vote provisoire a \u00e9t\u00e9 organis\u00e9 par le Conseil du travail, mais l'urne est rest\u00e9e scell\u00e9e \u00e0 la suite d'une contestation de l'employeur concernant la pertinence de l'unit\u00e9 de n\u00e9gociation. En fin de compte, le Conseil a d\u00e9termin\u00e9 que, sur la base de la preuve de l'adh\u00e9sion, une accr\u00e9ditation automatique \u00e9tait justifi\u00e9e. L'accr\u00e9ditation exclut le directeur technique, mais couvrira tous les autres employ\u00e9s occasionnels \u00e0 l'avenir.<\/p>\n

Conor Moore, secr\u00e9taire-archiviste de la section 118 de l'IATSE, est ravi pour ces travailleurs de la sc\u00e8ne et a d\u00e9clar\u00e9 que leur succ\u00e8s \"n'aurait pas \u00e9t\u00e9 possible sans l'incroyable travail du cabinet d'avocats Black Gropper\". L'accr\u00e9ditation est une victoire pour tous les techniciens de th\u00e9\u00e2tre d\u00e9sireux de syndiquer leur lieu de travail et M. Moore note qu'elle \"d\u00e9montre clairement que les techniciens de th\u00e9\u00e2tre sont des employ\u00e9s, quelles que soient les tentatives des employeurs de les classer \u00e0 tort comme des entrepreneurs ind\u00e9pendants\". Les techniciens de sc\u00e8ne sont impatients d'exercer le travail qu'ils aiment sous la structure et le soutien de leur premi\u00e8re convention collective.
